Difference between MariaDB vs MySQL

MySQL is a widely used open source relational database management system (RDBMS) that can be used as a replacement for MariaDB. It was released on 29 October 2009 by the MariaDB Foundation. Compared to MySQL, MariaDB has a high number of new features, which makes it better in terms of performance and user-friendliness.

MySQL is a relational database management system (RDBMS) based on Structured Query Language (SQL). It was developed and released by Oracle Corporation on 23 May 1995. In particular, it is widely used in several fields of industry and is capable of handling a large volume of data. After Oracle acquired MySQL, there were a number of problems related to MySQL, which led to the development of MariaDB.

MariaDB has new features, performance improvements, and better testing than MySQL. A few of these were developed by MariaDB's core developers, and others came from outside contributors and companies like Facebook, Twitter, Google, and other companies. The scope of this document does not allow detailed description of all the new features in MariaDB.
